Question #1: Think carefully – tick the correct answer: I would choose NOT to fire in which of the followng circumstances?
A. You are shooting rabbits with a .22 in a farm area and you move to an area where you know there are houses directly in the area in front of you, but you cannot see them at this stage because of bush or a low hill. A rabbit jumps out and sits just within range but just below the crest of the hill.
B. You are duck shooting up a stream and some ducks take off low, but immediately behind them is a mob of dairy cows right in your line of fire.
C. You are stalking deer on a ridge and spot one high on the skyline. Unfortunately you know that behind the deer are some farm houses.
D. You are duck shooting and when you fire at some ducks coming in, one breaks off and flies between you and the next mai-mai where your friend is.
E. You are duck shooting and you wound a duck that disappears into the rushes. Your friend later heads around the other side of the pond and disturbs the duck which swims out into the middle. You need to finish off the duck, but your friend and the duck are right in line with where you are.
F. You are out spotlighting and see an animal near the top of a ridge nearby. You are aware there may be houses around, but you are not quite sure where as you cannot see too far, and they could be some distance away. Also you are not too sure where stock is.
G. You are out spotlighting around farm edges and spot some eyes looking at you at a reasonable distance away. Someone has told you they saw deer in the area a short time before. However, you are not 100% certain it is a deer.
H. You are out with a party spotlighting and wound a deer or you think it is wounded. One of your mates says he will go up and look. You stay on the back of the vehicle with another friend and the spotlight and a rifle. Later you see what you think are the eyes of the deer in the spotlight and you raise your rifle to fire, thinking that your mate is not (H is based on a true story – the shooter shot his mate and later took his own life)
I. In not one of the above would I choose to fire!
